Good Tunes Tuesday: Coldplay – An Adventure of a Lifetime
One of the most successful bands in the world today, Coldplay decided to give us all a little present this season with a newly released album called, A Head Full of Dreams. Coldplay has sold over 50 millions albums worldwide in the past decade and a half, and they are not planning to stop.
Coldplay are an English alternative rock band who formed in University College London around 1996 with Chris Martin, lead vocalist and keyboard player, and Jonny Buckland, the group’s guitarist. After adding bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion, the band finally settled on the name, “Coldplay.” Shortly thereafter, the group released three EPs and secured a recording contract with Parlophone, a major record label.
After releasing the single, “Yellow” in 1999, the band had hit worldwide fame, and followed it with the release of their debut album, Parachutes, which was critically well-received by audiences and critics. Their debut album was quickly followed with their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, in 2002, which confirmed their new success across the world with sold-out concerts and receiving multi-platinum status. After A Rush of Blood to the Head, the band proceeded to release more four albums in subsequent years: X&Y (2005), Viva La Vida (2008), Mylo Xyloto (2011), and Ghost Stories (2014).
Recently, the band announced the release of their new single, “Adventure of a Lifetime,” to promote their seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams. The band will begin touring the U.S. in the summer of 2016, before bringing their show around the world. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Chris Martin stated, “I don’t know if it’s going to be wildly different from what you might imagine...If you’re a Coldplay fan, you’ll love it. And if you don’t like us? Don’t worry about it. It’s OK.”
